This scented hand sanitizer was made by Michael Part for Constanze Schweiger's exhibition Now Is I Know. Michael wanted to reproduce the olfactory impression of a dye plant such as rosemary. Its scent is conceptually based on the digital scan of a rosemary twig in June. It was recreated with synthetic aroma compounds and added to a commercially available hand sanitizer. Rosemary has an antiseptic effect and an aromatic smell reminiscent of eucalyptus and camphor. It was traditionally used as a substitute for incense. Due to its high tannin content, rosemary is also good for coloring.
